The VS Net is, I guess, the new latest, official, unofficial host for VS stuff. The Virtual Sailor Shipyard This site is tops for VS add-ons! Well, that's about all that is wrong with VS. Note: there are fixes or workarounds for alot of my complaints but I am talking about default, out of the box. But this is a sailing sim and that means alot of time with no land in sight so scenery isn't always important. There are some scenery areas that have detailed scenery in one place though.

Only one weapon allowed on a boat so you can't fire broadsides. The big waves continue even into long channels and harbors. There are some cool animal addons at Dan's Age of Sail. These are the 'x_fish', not the whale, shark, jellyfish, tuna, or dolphin. Really ugly default fish and they sometimes swim halfway out of the water. I find the seagulls annoying after a few hours. Things I dislike: Unrealistic wave and boat interaction (you'll see what I mean). Storms are awesome! Anyone can create boats and/or scenery for it using freeware tools. Accurate stars at night though there should be more of them. Things I like: Lots of variable features. Windows(the joke is on)ME or if the problem is with VS but overall, it's really nice. I don't know if they are due to my running It shuts down and cleans up after itself. No 30secs of writing files before you get most of your resources back. One thing I like is when you close it out it shuts off. Like all graphics intensive apps, the better your system the better your performance. You have to have directX 8 and at least Windows98 (A VS veteran has reported that it will run in windows95 so now you have no excuse not to try it out). Though not realistic in all areas and somewhat system dependant, it is easy to use and add to. This is a great effort from Ilan Papini (I bet you thought it was a whole company). In the end though, Virtual Sailor does sailing the best. Here one of the most recently released and best subs. I don't know how I could have missed that one. ApparentlyĪ storm overtook a regatta and 3 boats were sunk. This one shows the need for boating safety. The Hunley laying at the bottom of a hole at 8300ft. Here are a few shots of the new deep sea scenery. It looks like we all could live in thisĪvast, there be Mermaids in these waters! There is some things to find underwater like a reallyīig sub. You can take a break from the roiling tempest on the The Gulfrose picks her way back into port in the fog. You should follow the same advice in VS as inĬentral Park, don't get rolled. I challenge anybody to show me better wave action than this. I like boats that have sails and engines. Pretty stable in rough seas but has a tendancy to hop over waves. This is a cool boat called the Fischer 30. Here is what storms look like from the outside. Lots of canals.Ī storm raging making things rock and roll. Pretty good forīeing made up of 2d buildings. Note: Though you can't see much of it this is VS6.5

You can cruise below the waves too in submarines. Virtual Sailor lets you sail the seas or just sit and listen to the seagulls while rocking on the waves. There are already alot of freeware addon scenery and boats available and more on the way.
